Overview
Day 1 – How to restore a healthy balance in Adult – Child Relationship
“Love is not enough” says dr. Maté when he talks about what we can offer to our children. What is it then? Why?
On Day 1, dr. Maté engages us in understanding how the brain develops, the implications of how different factors – including parenting – influence who we are, how we define ourselves, how we behave, see, and experience the world.
“First the world develops our minds and with our minds we develop the world”. Dr. Maté helps us learn what we can do, individually and collectively to provide the right conditions for the healthy development that set our kids for life.
Day 2 – The Myth of Normal
What is “normal”? Why western countries with advanced healthcare systems are seeing an upsurge in chronic illness and general ill health?
Dr. Maté has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health.
Dr. Maté dissects the causes of this situation and connects the dots between our personal suffering and the pressures of modern-day living.
He argues that disease is a natural reflection of life in an “abnormal” culture as we grow further and further away from our true selves. But he also shows us the pathway to reconnection and healing.
What can be done about it? What can we do about it?
